Walking Group – Rooskey Loop

Carol and Ita will lead the walk next Thursday, January 25th. This will be the Rooskey Loop, an easy walk of 7km along minor roads laneways and tracks lasting 2 to 2.5 hours and not to be confused with The Roosley Loop, a much longer and more strenuous walk in the Mournes. Our walk will begin and end in the church car park in Grange ,near Carlingford We will need boots and walking sticks if we have them. We wont be passing any pubs or cafes so we need to carry our snacks and drinks. We will stop for refreshments in the village ruins at the foot of Barnavave and weather permitting there will be the option {FOR THOSE WHO WISH ) to do the half hour walk to the top of Barnavave and back.

“Belfast Bred” Walk

On Friday 2nd September, members of Armagh U3A, along with some members of Killyleagh and Upper Bann went on the “Belfast Bred” walk organised by the Kabosh Theatre Group.

IMG_0010Led by Barney the Baker, a chef on the Titanic, recently released from an iceberg thanks to global warming, the group called at various businesses as Barney gathered the ingredients for his next dinner. Starting at Sawers, where we sampled bread, bacon, cheese, octopus and olives; then on to Mourne Seafood for sqid, passing historic sites on our way to the John Hewitt bar to sample local beer and cider. They even stock gluten free beer. then on to McHugh’s bar one of the oldest in Belfast, for boxty and hot rock steaks. Finishing up in St George’s Market where Barney got the last of his ingredients.
