General Meeting

The next general meeting will be on the 21st November at 11:00 a.m. in the Golf Club. The speaker will be one of our members, the author John McAllister who will be talking about his characters..

The general meeting is normally held on the third Wednesday of the month at 11:00 a.m. in the County Armagh Golf Club. The meetings begin with an opportunity for tea/coffee and a catch up, then a short talk on a topic of interest, followed by the business of the meeting, news of group events and associated arrangements.

The main exceptions are in January and July, in January we normally have our New Year’s lunch and in July we take a summer break.

Cycling Group – November and December dates

We had a great cycle last Thursday to the Navan Centre from Loughall-the scones there are MIGHTY!

The next three Thursday outings all have booked Pods. Loughall, cycle to the Priory in Benburb for coffee-Thu 15th November, P’down 29th November-mystery outing and finally Scarva 13th December to Newry and back to Sintons for our annual Xmas lunch. Eleanor has kindly booked Sintons for 12.30pm. As always we assemble at the Pods at 9.15am. And then we’ll take a break until the end of March 2019.

Walking Group – Doan

The walk for Thursday November 8th will be Doan. After meeting at the Palace we park at the Ott/Blue Quary car park, cross the road, over a stile and up a stony track. Then up a muddy slope to another stony track overlooking Lough Shannagh. Then take a steepish track to summit of Doan. It is wet and muddy in places so definitely recommend poles and boots. Also quite an exposed walk so wrap up well!

It will be approx 3hrs and Peter and Carloine will lead us.

Walking Group – Silent Valley

Our next walk will be on Thursday 25th October. Declan will lead us in the silent valley. We will walk to the Ben Crum Dam. This will give those who missed this same walk earlier in the summer to enjoy the beautiful scenery and to marvel at the skill of the engineers who planned it and the men who built it. There is an entrance fee of £4.50/car and a cafe where we can get coffee etc.

Walking Group – Newry Greenway

Our walk on 11th October, weather permitting, will explore the Greenway from Victoria lock to Newry, taking a peep at the maritime history associated with the ship canal. Meet at usual time 9.30 at the palace car park. Bring a few Euros in care we fall into a hostelry!

Visit to Stormont + Out-to-Lunch Bunch – Stormont

We have now arranged a tour of Stormont on the same day for those that want to see a bit more of the building, it will start at 12:00 and take approximately 45 minutes. The time of the lunch has been moved back to 1:15 to accommodate those people who are just having the lunch. If you could let Florence know if you want to take part in the tour and lunch, or just the tour, or just the lunch before Friday 26th October.
